Bangalore Infrastructure Projects: Status of Nine in October 2026

By Bangaloreprop Editorial Team·5 October 2026·7 min read

Bangalore has more large transport projects on the table than at any time in its history: three ring roads, a tunnel, an expressway, two metro lines and a suburban railway. This guide gives the status of nine of them at the start of October 2026. Each is placed in one of three stages (open, under construction or planned), because that stage matters more to a home buyer than the size of the announcement.

Status at a Glance

The table sorts the nine projects by stage. Details and the localities affected follow below.

Projects Already Carrying Traffic

Two highway projects have sections in use today. Both are being built by the National Highways Authority of India and both meet at Hoskote.

Satellite Town Ring Road

The Satellite Town Ring Road is a loop of about 280.8 km around the towns outside Bangalore, through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The 80 km stretch from Dobbaspet to Hoskote, through Doddaballapura and Devanahalli, opened in March 2024. A further 21 km from Hoskote to the Tamil Nadu border is nearly finished and waits on a rail overbridge near Hoskote.

That would give a continuous route from Dobbaspet towards Hosur and a quicker drive between Hosur and the airport. The western and southern arc of the loop is still at an earlier stage. Buyers looking at Magadi, Ramanagara or Kanakapura should treat the road there as planned.

Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway

The expressway runs about 262 km from Hoskote to Sriperumbudur through Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The 71 km Karnataka stretch from Hoskote to Bethamangala has been open since December 2024. A further 25 km into Andhra Pradesh has since opened, which gives nearly 100 km of continuous road from Hoskote.

The end-to-end route is held up by sections in Tamil Nadu, where land disputes and the shifting of power lines have delayed work. Targets for full opening have moved several times. For Hoskote and Old Madras Road, the benefit that exists today is the link to Kolar and the east.

Projects Under Construction

Three rail projects are being built now. All three have missed earlier targets, so the stage of work is a better guide than any promised date.

Namma Metro Pink and Blue Lines

The Pink Line will run about 21 km with 18 stations from Kalena Agrahara on Bannerghatta Road to Nagawara. Its elevated section of six stations, up to Tavarekere, is built and was awaiting the statutory safety inspection at the start of October 2026. The underground section through MG Road and Shivajinagar will follow later.

The Blue Line covers 58.19 km and 30 stations from Central Silk Board to the airport through KR Pura and Hebbal. BMRCL has moved the start of services on the Silk Board to KR Pura section into 2027. The airport section is a later stage of the same line.

Suburban Rail

The suburban rail network is being built by K-RIDE on four corridors totalling about 148 km. The corridors run from the city to Devanahalli, from Baiyappanahalli to Chikkabanavara, from Kengeri to Whitefield and from Heelalige to Rajanukunte. Work is furthest along on the Baiyappanahalli to Chikkabanavara corridor of about 25 km.

Opening targets for that corridor have shifted more than once. The other three corridors are at earlier stages. A home sold on "suburban rail access" deserves a check of which corridor is meant and whether work has begun on it.

Projects at Contract or Tender Stage

Three road projects have approvals and money attached but little or no construction yet. Their timelines depend on contracts and land.

Bengaluru Business Corridor

The Peripheral Ring Road, now called the Bengaluru Business Corridor, is a 74 km road planned by the Bangalore Development Authority. It will run from Tumakuru Road to Hosur Road around the north and east of the city, crossing Ballari Road and Old Madras Road. The first package of about 20 km, between Tumakuru Road and Ballari Road, was awarded in June 2026 at Rs. 3,348 crore. The contract period is 36 months.

Land remains the open question for the other packages. The state has approved revised compensation for 948 acres, and acquisition is continuing. Buyers in North Bangalore have the firmest case, since the awarded package is on that side.

Outer Ring Road Upgrade

A Rs. 450 crore upgrade of the 17 km Outer Ring Road stretch between Silk Board and KR Puram has been approved. It is split into two packages: 5.44 km from Silk Board to Iblur at Rs. 143 crore, and 11.57 km from Iblur to KR Puram at Rs. 307 crore. The work covers footpaths, cycle lanes, junctions, drains, utility ducts and bus stops. Bids for the larger package closed in July 2026.

Hebbal to Silk Board Tunnel Road

The proposed tunnel road is 16.75 km long, from Hebbal in the north to Central Silk Board in the south. The state estimated the cost at Rs. 17,698 crore. The lowest bid, opened in December 2025, was Rs. 22,267 crore, and the contract had not been awarded when this was written. A separate short tunnel at Hebbal junction is a different project, and its foundation stone was laid in June 2026.

Projects Still on Paper

The Intermediate Ring Road is a 210 km corridor first proposed in 2007. The state revived it in April 2026 with an alignment close to the original, linking Harohalli, Bidadi, Nelamangala, Devanahalli, Hoskote, Dommasandra and Anekal. The planning authority for the metropolitan region, BMRDA, is to deliver it in phases.

KWIN City is a planned district of about 5,800 acres between Dobbaspet and Doddaballapura, launched in September 2024. It is meant for universities, research and health care. Land acquisition is at an early stage and has met protests from farmers. Plots sold on the strength of either project carry the risk of a long wait.

What Buyers Should Do With This

A project that is open adds value that a buyer can test with a drive. One that is under construction adds value later, with some risk of delay. A planned project should carry little weight in the price paid today.

Three questions settle most claims. Is the road or line open, being built or only announced? Has the contract been awarded and the land acquired? Does the home depend on that one project, or does it work without it?

The answers differ even within one locality. Places such as Devanahalli and Sarjapura Road appear in several of these plans, and each plan is at a different stage. We are glad to share what is open today near any project on our pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which part of the Satellite Town Ring Road is open?+
The 80 km stretch from Dobbaspet to Hoskote, through Doddaballapura and Devanahalli, has been open since March 2024. A further 21 km from Hoskote to the Tamil Nadu border is targeted to open in November 2026.
Has work started on the Bengaluru Business Corridor?+
The first package of about 20 km, between Tumakuru Road and Ballari Road, was awarded in June 2026 at Rs. 3,348 crore with a 36-month contract. Land acquisition for the rest of the 74 km road is continuing.
Is the Hebbal to Silk Board tunnel road under construction?+
No. Price bids for the 16.75 km tunnel were opened in December 2025, and the lowest bid of Rs. 22,267 crore was above the state's estimate of Rs. 17,698 crore. The contract had not been awarded at the start of October 2026.
Is the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway fully open?+
Not yet. The 71 km Karnataka stretch from Hoskote to Bethamangala has been open since December 2024, and a further 25 km in Andhra Pradesh has opened. Sections in Tamil Nadu are still incomplete.
How should a home buyer treat a planned infrastructure project?+
Give it little weight in the price paid today. Check whether the contract is awarded and the land acquired, and make sure the home works for daily travel without that project.
