If your budget is tight but you still want to live within Chennai's reach, apartments in Avadi deserve a look. This big suburb in the north-west of the city is a municipality in its own right. The trade-offs depend on where you work. A suburb this far north-west suits buyers with jobs nearby better than those commuting across the city. Check the water supply arrangements, since many suburbs rely partly on tankers during dry months. Walk the approach road to the building in the rain season if you can, to see how it drains. Verify the project's registration on the TNRERA portal, and compare the carpet area in the sale agreement with the brochure. Ask for the full cost sheet, covering car parking, corpus fund and registration, before paying anything.
